Mercy Foundation has started a pilot project, Project Calm, to help pediatric patients in our Emergency Department experiencing a mental health crisis. Your gift of support will provide much-needed comfort and positive distractions such as healthy snacks, safe activities and tactile items, and iPads these children can utilize during their stay at Mercy Medical Center Merced.

While this will not solve our county's mental health crisis, it is a small and easy thing to provide a bit of light for children facing their darkest days. Thank you for your consideration in helping a child in need in our community.

Did you know?

When a child is considered to be a danger to themselves or others, they are placed on a legal mental health hold - a 5150.
Finding placement in an inpatient psychiatric facility is not easy and parents, school officials, and others usually must go through an emergency department for medical clearance.
Children in our county are usually brought to our Emergency Department, where our staff works diligently to find placement in an inpatient facility.
With no automated placement systems and a shortage of facilities in California with available beds for minors, children may spend days, sometimes weeks in our Emergency Department.
These extreme lengths of stay partnered with no form of entertainment or positive distraction may further add to the child's already traumatic experience.
